Happy Valley Cellars is a boutique producer of deep, luscious Zinfandel and rich, complex Petite Sirah, hand crafted from fruit grown by owners Sam and Dana Greason on their hillside “Bella Vista” vineyard, in the Happy Valley district of Lafayette, California. Our wines are produced with meticulous care by notable wine makers Art & Judd Finkelstein of Judd’s Hill Micro-Crush, at their state-of-the-art custom crush facility on the Silverado Trail in the Napa Valley.
Happy Valley is a scenic, semi-rural neighborhood in the City of Lafayette, Contra Costa County, encompassing approximately 1,400 residences surrounded by thousands of acres of open space. Many of the homes are situated on large lots, and an increasing number of families are planting home vineyards. Sam and Dana Greason, proprietors of Happy Valley Cellars, planted the Bella Vista vineyard on the steep slope below their family home in Spring, 2004, and their first harvest took place at the end of their “third leaf” in Fall, 2006.
Protected from the maritime climate of San Francisco Bay by the Berkeley Hills, Lafayette enjoys a Mediterranean micro-climate very similar to that of Tuscany or the Napa Valley, with hot, sunny days followed by much cooler, sometimes foggy nights. This climate allows the fruit sufficient “hang time” for red wine varietals to ripen gradually as the growing season progresses, allowing the fruit to develop complex and enticing flavors.
